Iiona Virgin, LMSW
School-Based Professional
Hello! My name is iiona, and I’m a Black Queer Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW). My pronouns are she/her/they. I have a Master's Degree in Social Work from Baylor University (#sicembears), a Bachelor's Degree in Human Services, and an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education. I have some training in Decolonizing Therapy for Black Folks, and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
One of my goals as a therapist is to come alongside and be with the individuals that I work with, I want them to know and feel that I am with them in this journey. I approach this time together through a holistic, strengths-based, culturally-informed perspective. I value the relationship I have with each person and I want to honor all the things that make you who you are.
I aim to create a brave, nurturing, and judgement free environment for my clients to feel supported in their journey. In the work that I do I take an anti-oppresive, anti-racist, trauma informed, relational approach. I use the relationship we’ve created and my knowledge of different modalities to aid in helping my clients. But a few different modalities/frameworks/things I use are person-centered, and culturally sensitive; these include art, sandtray, play, psychoeducation, narrative therapy, restorative justice, and motivational interviewing.
My previous experience includes working as an early childhood educator, substitute teacher, foster parent, working with youth who were houseless, substance use disorders, those that identify as women and children who experienced sexual/emotional/physical/financial trauma, individuals that have experienced generational and race/culture-based trauma, individuals that identify within the LGBTQIA+ community, anxiety and depression, suicidal ideation, and various other mental health difficulties.
