What is Therapy?
Therapy, psychotherapy, and counseling are all different names for the same thing. In therapy, you will meet with a licensed therapist in order to set goals to change areas of concern in your life or to find areas of growth. These can include improving relationships, changing habits, finding meaning and purpose in life, alleviating negative symptoms, and having a safe place to share and heal from the past.

how we do therapy
First, we offer a free 15 minute consultation where we will ask questions and answer yours to make sure you get a great fit with your counselor.
During the first session, your therapist will spend time getting to know you and what brought you into therapy. A thorough assessment helps your therapist understand what got you to this point and how best to help you move forward.
Some types of therapy focus on present symptoms and planning for the future, while others focus on looking at past troubles and how they affect you currently. In therapy, you can talk to your therapist about what is most important to you to work on.
Most therapy sessions last either 50 or 80 minutes (depending on the type of therapy chosen) and take place weekly or bi-weekly. Therapy can look different depending on the therapist’s personality, training, and chosen modality.
Therapy can include learning new skills, expressing feelings in new ways, or treating specific symptoms or illnesses including past or current trauma, anxiety, depression, and so on. In therapy, you can learn about yourself and how you interact with others and the world in order to improve how you feel and function.
